Midtown Church is a restart of a church that existed for twelve years. In August of 2010, the former Midtown leadership turned the facility over to Pastor Todd Briggs and his leadership team. For the previous four years Todd had been planting EPIC Village church in the Kirkwood neighborhood of Atlanta. Midtown has the rare opportunity of starting from scratch with good facilities which we own, free of debt. With that privilege, Midtown Church acknowledges a responsibility to be good stewards of what God has given us and to look for opportunities to share our facilities.
Located in Loring Heights, an affluent area of urban Atlanta, Midtown Church seeks to be a community church, serving our community as we share the gospel. Since August, Midtown Church has added fifteen to our membership, baptized two, started a small group network, held quarterly food drives for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, planted a community garden, and done environmental projects in the neighborhood, such as pond and park clean-up. In seeking to be good stewards of what we have been given, we are sharing our building with the neighborhood association, with a ministry that clothes and feeds the homeless, and with Apostles Korean Baptist Church, which is now meeting in our building for worship on Sunday afternoons.
One of the greatest challenges we face is reaching the affluent people in our community who often are not interested in church because they have a sense of self-sufficiency or are not interested in a missional church because they are more comfortable being a part of a church they merely attend on Sunday mornings as a formality. We also have limited visibility so we are looking for ways to increase awareness of our presence here. We would like to do more neighborhood surveying and more neighborhood work projects. We are involved in mission work in Zimbabwe and are hoping to be able to raise funds for that work and for Apostles Korean Baptist.
Midtown Church is committed to the possibilities and potential of kingdom church planting in the city as we partner together with other church plants in Atlanta. |

Todd Briggs
Todd and his wife Barbie have been married since 1989 and have two daughters, Taylor and Madison. Todd and Barbie became Christians later in life and have a heart for people outside of traditional church culture. They are both graduates of Michigan State University. Todd attended Heritage Theological Seminary and was ordained in 2001. He is a former high school teacher, youth pastor, and worship leader.
The Briggs family relocated from Michigan to Atlanta in June of 2006 to be involved in urban church planting. Todd says that initially he was not particularly drawn to Atlanta, but through a series of God-orchestrated circumstances, “Atlanta chose me.”
